WEB applications remain the main online business tool today. Whenever online users leave first pages of your website and want to do something, such as browse the catalog or products, obtain detailed information about a product, select and buy it, process payments online, etc. - they interact with your WEB application. Applications look a lot like websites. However, unlike a regular static or even semi-dynamic website, WEB application provides user experience to online customers according to its business functions, far beyond pages of information for reading and printing.

Historically we created a platform for development and hosting of WEB applications - our own Java Application Server. It is the core of many of our WEB application solutions. With ease of development, complete understanding of its internals and ability to make modifications if needed, it serves as a good foundation for many of the existing solutions. We plan on using it for the future ones too, whenever it makes sense.

We realize that WEB applications have diversity of business needs, technical requirements and often client preferences. In addition to Java we develop WEB applications on Microsoft .NET and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) platforms. Just like in Java, we have deep knowledge and expertise in Microsoft .NET platform. We are pleased to see that both Java and .NET server technologies are conceptually close to one another. We consider them moth as good platforms for complex business applications while considering LAMP as the simpler (lighter!) option for smaller and less complex projects.

There are many pre-packaged WEB application and eCommerce solutions available on the market, for a fee or even free. One may ask why would you develop a custom solution and not to buy and customize the existing one? We think while there's definitely a place for quick and easy pre-packaged solutions, in the long term you will need a custom one. When your business grows you'll need more and more features specific to you.

The cost of customization and support of pre-packaged solution will grow exponentially. Some critical features you need may simply be impossible to implement. Pre-packaged and therefore unified customer experience of your application will not set you apart from (and ahead of!) competition. More importantly, the investment you make in purchasing, customization and support of the pre-packaged solution will work less and less efficiently as your business grows.
